Shelter From The Storm: A Concert For The Gulf CoastSony Music Studios Puts Avastor Drives To The TestNew York City -- September 2005 - As many as 38 million American viewers watched a benefit concert in aid of the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region of the US. Approximately $30million was raised for the Red Cross and Salvation Army relief efforts - as a result of this concert. The concert - staged at Sony Music Studios in New York City as well as Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, was shown commercial-free by every major US broadcaster as well as via cable, Internet, radio and in over 155 international territories too. Once again, major musical performers covering all genres pulled together and performed for the one-hour prime time simulcast. Artists included Neil Young, Paul Simon, Randy Newman, Kanye West, Dr. John, Alicia Keys, Garth Brooks, Mary J. Blige performing with U2 and the Foo Fighters covering the John Fogerty classic “Born on The Bayou”- with a potency making it as relevant today as it ever was. The technical staff at Sony Music Studios recorded the entire concert exclusively to Avastor HDX800 Triple Interface FireWire Drives to 3 separate Protools HD rigs. The drives provided the broadcast mix/feed as well as the audio archive of this historic concert. Dave Swope – recording engineer – using a massive Protools HD rig with six 192 interfaces stated, “They (the Avastor drives) are rock solid.” Thom Cadley, the recording engineer who recorded the Alicia Keys, Garth Brooks and Paul Simon performances commented, “I keep my personal stuff on Avastor FW800 drives.” Andy Manganello - who recorded The Foo Fighters, Sheryl Crow and Dr. John, was equally impressed, "The Avastor FW800 drives are great, they haven't failed me yet." After Sony Music Studios, New York, tried several types of hard drives, Avastor drives have become the drive of choice for audio back-up and drives for sessions that take place in this historic facility.
